Emme: fuses fitness & fashion with function

Monica Filpo, Designer and Founder of ëmme clothing corp, is a self proclaimed product of the fitness generation. She was born and raised in New Jersey where she frequently witnessed her mother aerobicize into a svelte figure eight complete with leotard, legwarmers and headband to match.

A gymnastics competitor herself, this Brazilian beauty was at home in a gym environment from a very young age. As the years evolved, so did Monica’s love affair with the latest craze in fat blasting activities.

But, as she sweat her way from spinning to step and ballet to boxing, one thing remained constant, her quest for trend driven gym attire that reflected her flair for fashion in the outside world.

“I grew so tired of wearing basic workout clothing to the gym, none of which reflected my sense of style nor particularly flattered the physique I worked so hard to achieve,” Monica comments. Upon countless trips to visit family in Brazil, she began to realize the potential for Brazilian fitness apparel in the US market.

Brazil is recognized world-wide for their female fitness competitors. The women in Brazil are known to have sensational figures and for wearing fashion that celebrates their femininity. “I see Brazilian women as having a strong sense of self, an air of confidence. I want to inject this in all women. I want women to feel so good wearing ëmme that they wouldn’t consider wearing anything else,” Monica says.

Having spent so much time in gyms and abroad, Monica knew what women required of their workout clothing from a functional aspect. Furthermore, she has always had a keen eye for fashion and trends and an understanding of what flattered the female form. It was when that knowledge was combined with a strong aptitude for design, that the first ëmme collection was born.

The collection, which consists of key pieces such as low rise boot cut pants, functional yogawear, capris, shorts, bra and sport tops as well as ballet and Pilates inspired cardigans and hoodies is designed to fuse fashion and function into a fitness environment.

Each piece is physically tested by Monica before it is put into production. This ensures that waist bands stay in place, pants are functional for cardio movement, sport tops provide adequate support, etc.

Furthermore, her careful attention to detail makes the collection both cutting edge (think printed piping, color contrasted waistbands and double layer shirts) and easy to wear (pants have hidden pockets for cell phones, locker keys and some even come complete with removable waist pack).

Each garment in the ëmme collection contains the highest quality Supplex®, a DuPont™ fiber that provides the durability benefits of synthetic fabrics with the absorption properties and comfort of modern textiles.
